Hiking the Bradley Property – Event Recap

October 15, 2018

Hilltown Land Trust began our 2018-2019 Hilltowns Hiking Series on October 9th with eighteen hikers gathering  on a lovely fall afternoon at the kiosk on the Bradley Sanctuary in Williamsburg. We walked the perimeter trail and found the waters of the Nichols Brook gushing from the plentiful rains we have had during the last several months.

This hike was led by HLT’s new TerraCorps Community Engagement Coordinator, Susan Schroder, assisted by new volunteer Denise Dwelley and HLT staff member Katie Carr.

After we parted from the brook we walked along the northern boundary through the hilltop pine grove then down the western slope where we viewed the ‘big oak,’ a several hundred year-old red oak tree right on the trail. Our greatest finds of the day were the many mushroom fruiting bodies thriving in this autumn’s weather.

We entered the forest with an overcast sky, but we were greeted with bright sunshine when we left. Please join us on the next hike at Audubon’s Conway Hills on October 16th.
