Birds & Books

January 28, 2017

Date/Time
Date(s) - Jan 28th, 2017
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Location
Bullitt Reservation

Learn about natural history publishing in the region over the last 200 years, walk or snowshoe the Bullitt Reservation with an experienced birder, and try your hand at nature writing and illustration!

image_hoffmann_book_coverLed by avid birder Pete McLean and librarian Mike Kelly, participants will get to view rare books and historic publications from Amherst College’s Archives and Special Collections, including the Richard L. Soffer Ornithology Collection, then go outside and observe some of the winter birds featured in those books.

Drawing inspiration from the books and their own observations outside, participants will have the option to contribute to the creation of a natural history journal of their own. All types of contributions will be welcomed and encouraged: sketches, photography, poems, observations of bird behavior, thoughts about the weather and landscape, etc.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies if they have them, but paper and pens will be available at the event as well.

All ages are welcome at this free event. RSVPs are requested. Please contact Katie Carr at Hilltown Land Trust: hltoutreach@thetrustees.org (413) 628-4485 ext.#4.
