Horse Logging Demonstration – 12:30 pm

March 6, 2021

Date/Time
Date(s) - Mar 6th, 2021
12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

A logger and his horse remove a felled tree from a forest
Michael Madole and Hazel

We hope you will be able to join us on Saturday, March 6th for a demonstration by Hilltown Horse Logging‘s Michael Madole and his Belgian mare Hazel, who will offer an overview of their minimally invasive timber harvesting practice. The team will demonstrate removing timber from a woodlot with an emphasis on leaving the surrounding forest as healthy and as unimpacted as possible. Striving to mimic the natural growth/disturbance cycle of the forest, they work to carefully harvest less viable trees with minimal damage to the more promising growth that remain – strengthening the long-term health of the forest.

Michael will be joined by licensed forester (and one of HLT’s founders) Lincoln Fish, who will speak to unique advantages of horse-powered logging, and of the benefits of developing a management plan for your woods. Pre-registration and adherence to HLT’s COVID-19 procedures – including masks and proper social distancing – are required for all attendees (see form below). Attendance is capped at 10 people, and all participants (including members of the same household) must pre-register individually.

This event will be held on private property in Plainfield. Directions and parking information will be included in your confirmation email. For more information, email barry@hilltownlandtrust.org.

REGISTRATION FOR THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY FULL. To be added to the waitlist, please email Barry@hilltownlandtrust.org.
