Celebrating Our Volunteers

March 29, 2023

In March, Hilltown Land Trust staff and TerraCorps members hosted twenty-five people for our annual Volunteer Celebration in the event space at the Chesterfield General Store.

Volunteers are essential to achieving HLT’s mission of land conservation and stewardship. From clearing branches off trails, to taking photographs and registering runners and walkers at the Gorge après Gorge, to serving on our Board or committees, volunteers help with all aspects of this work.

HLT was an all-volunteer organization for the first twenty-four years of our existence. Though we have grown to a small staff of three people, assisted by TerraCorps–AmeriCorps service members each year, our mighty volunteer base is still the heart of our organization, and we love celebrating with them!

For this year’s celebration of our volunteers, we were excited to gather together inside for the first time since 2020. Brand new volunteers joined others who have been volunteering with HLT since before we were a staffed organization to enjoy delicious snacks and great company.

Our Land Stewardship Coordinator Tim even organized a trivia game! Below are a couple sample questions. Think you know the answers? Scroll down to see if you are correct.

  1. Which county has the highest point conserved by HLT?
  2. What is the most common tree in Massachusetts by total number?

Are you interested in volunteering with Hilltown Land Trust? Learn more about opportunities and fill out our Volunteer Interest form, and someone will get in touch with you!
