Chesterfield Land Auction Saturday

November 12, 2020

River and rocks, surrounded by trees
The east branch of the Westfield
River at the Chesterfield Gorge

Four properties in Chesterfield are being auctioned off this Saturday, November 14th, three of which are important lands to conserve for public recreation, water and air quality, and wildlife habitat. One of these properties is on River Road, along the trail that runs along the East Branch of the Westfield River from the Chesterfield Gorge to the Knightville Dam where we hold the annual Gorge après Gorge 5k run and family fun walk.

Hilltown Land Trust has been working in partnership with other area conservation organizations to conserve these three properties. A representative from this group plans to bid on the three properties that are important to protect.

Many have reached out to Hilltown Land Trust and our partner organizations to ask how they can help. We have been so encouraged by the number of people who feel this land is important to protect, and want to express our gratitude. At this point, we don’t need media attention or additional bidders, but we always need the support of our community.

Nothing is certain at this point, but we are doing our best in a tight time frame to protect this land for the benefit of this and future generations. And we have been able to do this work because of the support of our donors. Your support now means we can act quickly the next time there is an urgent need for land protection in the Hilltowns.

Significant time and resources have been spent on this project. Other important conservation projects need similar attention, but our staff and resources are limited.

If you care about protecting these properties and others like them, please make a gift to Hilltown Land Trust today. Your donation will support this and other high priority conservation efforts in Chesterfield and other Hilltowns.

We hope you can join us at this year’s virtual Gorge après Gorge 5k run and family fun walk so you can experience the beauty of the Chesterfield Gorge and see why so many people care about protecting this special place! And please make a gift to Hilltown Land Trust today!
