Recap of Bryant Hike and Poetry

May 20, 2019

On April 27th, the day we collaborated with The Trustees to celebrate poetry in your pocket day at Bryant Homestead, we had cold, sun, snow, sleet, light rain and wind, a day perfectly described by one of New England’s most beloved poets Robert Frost when he said “If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute!” Frost was truly with us in spirit.

Reading poetry on the Rivulet Trail

We were intrepid hikers and lovers of poetry as we wandered on Bryant’s Rivulet Trail stopping occasionally to learn about William Cullen Bryant from our event leader and TerraCorps member, Rachel Niswander. When inspired, we also stopped to share and listen to the poetry we had brought while it was read under the trees in a forest with some very big pines and hemlocks. Nature was praised many times with the breath of words and feelings that echo our connection and appreciation. This was a unique and valuable experience.
