Adult & Teen Wildlife Tracking Workshop

February 12, 2022

Date/Time
Date(s) - Feb 12th, 2022
1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Location
Fare-Thee-Well Wholeness Center

Cesi kneels in the snow to point out an animal track while looking up at a member of the group outside of the frame. This event has been canceled.

Have you ever seen animal tracks cutting their way through a snowy forest and wondered who made them? Would you like to enliven your experiences in the forest by sharpening your perception? Join us with local naturalist Cesi Marseglia at Fare-Thee-Well Wholeness Center in Huntington on Saturday, February 12th from 1-2:30 pm for an animal tracking program for adults and kids ages 12+!

We will be discussing habitat identification and best approaches for beginner trackers, including how to keep your own tracking journal. We will also learn how to identify animals using tracks and sign, and how to discern animals’ movements, foot structures, genders, and even diets!

Instructions and Accessibility

During this program, we will walk between 0.5 and 2 miles, depending on the tracks we find and participant interest and ability. We’ll be sticking together, and moving as slowly as the slowest person in the group. This program is about observing, not rushing. We’ll be walking on hilly, snowy terrain, over a combination of single-track woodland trails, open fields, and off-trail woods, also depending on tracks and participant interest and ability. The terrain is not wheelchair accessible. Additional information about bathrooms on site will be included in the confirmation email.

Snowshoes are available to borrow during the event if you don’t have some of your own! Please dress in warm layers and bring your own water and snacks.

Pricing*: $5 (HLT member**) / $10 per person

*If the cost of this event presents a burden for you, please email sarah@hilltownlandtrust.org for scholarship options.

**To become a member of Hilltown Land Trust for the year, make a gift in any amount to support our efforts to conserve and care for ecologically valuable land in the Hilltowns.
