Join Hilltown Land Trust and beaver naturalist Drew Johnson on a visit to beaver ponds in several locations in Conway, many of which have active beaver populations. We’ll learn about beaver slides, what beavers need to be prepared for winter, and the age that youngsters leave the only home they have known to discover a place of their own.

In addition, during last August’s persistent, heavy rains, a beaver dam in one of the ponds ruptured and the pond drained. The result has left the beaver house entrance exposed and their cash of food visible. The dry pond floor has proven to be a wonderful location for finding the tracks of wildlife. This is a truly fascinating and unique experience.

Participants will meet at The Trustees’ Bullitt Reservation parking lot. Due to limited parking and the need to drive to different locations, we will carpool to the ponds. The walk will be less than half a mile on moderate terrain that includes tall grass, some steep, short inclines and stepping over small brooks. Please dress appropriately and bring insect repellent.

Preregistration is required as spaces are limited. To reserve your spot, contact Susan Schroder at HLToutreach@thetrustees.org or call 413-628-4485 x 4.

Rain Date: November 18th at 2:00 pm.
