Earth Day Trail Work at Conwell

April 22, 2023

Date/Time
Date(s) - Apr 22nd, 2023
9:30 am - 5:00 pm

Bundled up against the cold, four people stand shoulder to shoulder in the woods, smiling into the camera and holding saws and loppers and other tools for trail work. A gray sky is visible through bare trees and a leaf covered forest floor in the background. Celebrate Earth Day by helping HLT extend the trail network at Conwell down to the beautiful Jackson Swamp! We will focus on building a half mile section of new trail descending from Eagle Nest Ridge down to the swamp, and then reclaiming another half mile of logging road to create a loop trail out of two trails that are currently dead-ends.

Trail work may include, but will not be limited to, using pickaxes, saws, shovels, loppers, rakes, and painting blazes! While this will be a physically demanding day overall, there will be trail work at varying levels of intensity. All levels of experience are welcome. Feel free to come for as much or as little of the day as you’d like!

Accessibility Information

Some of the work will be on off-trail, rugged terrain as we create a new path through the forest. There will be less physically demanding work, like painting new blazes on gentler sections of the trail and lopping off low hanging branches. However, all volunteers should expect at least some moderate to rugged terrain as a part of the day. The farthest point reached will be 1 mile from the parking lot.

Bathroom: There is no restroom at the Conwell Property.

Public transportation: Public transit is not available to the Conwell Property Trailhead. Contact Tim if you are interested in trying to coordinate a carpool.

Location & Directions
