Hilltowns Hiking Series – Bryant Homestead

October 11, 2017

Date/Time
Date(s) - Oct 11th, 2017
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Location
William Cullen Bryant Homestead

Join us for the first Cummington hike in our new hiking series at the William Cullen Bryant Homestead. This hike will be led by Andrea Caluori, Northwest Engagement Site Manager for The Trustees (and former HLT AmeriCorps service member), who will tell us about William Cullen Bryant and his nature poetry, the early conservation movement, art history, and what makes this Hilltown location so special.

The William Cullen Bryant Homestead is one of The Trustees‘ historic homes, being the boyhood and later summer home of the 19th-Century poet, editor, publisher, conservationist, and abolitionist. It sits on a hill with a splendid view of the fall foliage.

The approximately 1.5 mile moderate hike along the Rivulet Trail and the Pine Loop, include old growth, ancient specimens of hemlock and a magnificent cherry tree, a trickling stream immortalized by Bryant’s 1823 poem “Rivulet,” and enormous pines that reach heights of 150 feet – a stand among the tallest in the Northeast.

$5 suggested donation. Please RSVP by sending an email to hltoutreach<at>thetrustees<dot>org or call 413-628-4485 ext 4.

If you would like to be added to the Hilltowns Hiking Series email list, send an email to Katie at the address above to receive regular updates. Some hikes will have educational components, some will be themed, and some will just be regular group hikes. Come meet your neighbors, get some exercise, and explore a new trail or revisit a familiar one!
