June Hike at Locke’s Loop/Petticoat Hill

June 25, 2022

Date/Time
Date(s) - Jun 25th, 2022
10:00 am - 12:00 pm

A map kiosk and hanging "Petticoat Hill" sign frame the entrance to a wide uphill hiking trail.Join Hilltown Land Trust for a hike at the recently conserved Locke’s Loop Trail on Petticoat Hill in Williamsburg from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, June 25th. This hike traverses a beautiful wooded hillside with specimen trees from both northern and southern climates. Some trees are more than 110 feet high, among the tallest in the region!

This hike is appropriate for all ages. Children supervised by an adult are welcome! Pre-registration is required.

About Locke’s Loop

Locke’s Loop Trail, located on land conserved by Hilltown Land Trust, is open to the public and connects to a network of trails at the Petticoat Hill Reservation, a property of our affiliate organization The Trustees. Locke’s Loop trail is accessible from the trailhead at Petticoat Hill Reservation on Petticoat Hill Road in Williamsburg. Over a mile and a half of occasionally steep and strenuous trails traverse these two properties. Locke’s Loop trail was constructed by the Williamsburg Wood Trails Committee. HLT protected the trail with a conservation restriction donated by Sandra Warren and her late husband Jim Locke.

Access Notes

We will hike for approximately 1.5 miles on occasionally steep, strenuous dirt trails. We will hike at the pace of the slowest member of our group, and include plenty of breaks for water and catching our breath. Restroom facilities are not available on this hike, although there are several businesses in town where you could take a bathroom break before or after the program. The center of Williamsburg (~0.25 miles from the trailhead) is serviced by the R42 PVTA bus route, which runs from Northampton.

Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome.

Hilltown Land Trust is happy to discuss your access needs for this event. If there’s something we didn’t cover here, please reach out to sarah@hilltownlandtrust.org or call  (413) 628-4485 ext. 6.
