FREE and open to the public! Join river scientist Erin Rodgers, Hilltown Land Trust, and town volunteers to observe the Mill River as it flows through Williamsburg. We’ll tour through the center of town and visit bridges, floodplains, and places that teach us about how our town and the river interact." Stepping in the river is optional, although waterproof shoes are recommended.

This event is part of the Resilient Upper Mill River Watershed Project in Williamsburg funded through the Commonwealth’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program.

Accessibility

We’ll take a route through the center of town according to group interest and abilities, seeking out the best places to get a view of the river. Expect up to a mile and a half of walking on a mix of sidewalks and other surfaces of varied difficulties (including navigating down river banks and optionally stepping into the river).

  • Bathroom: Public bathrooms available throughout town, including at Meekins Library.
  • Distance Traveled: Up to 1.5 miles.
  • Fragrances: To be respectful of those with allergies and environmental sensitivities, please refrain from wearing strong fragrances.
  • Parking: Park at the Dunphy School lot off Petticoat Hill Road. We’ll meet in front of the school.
  • Public transportation: There is a PVTA (R42) bus stop at the Grange Hall.
  • Seating: Seating will not be available at this program, but we’ll take time to pause and catch our breath if we need to.
