Enjoy the shortest day of the year with a meditative hike. We will take a short, silent walk on the accessible trail along the Upper Highland Lake in DAR State Forest and enjoy the sunset together in peaceful quiet. Depending on the group, we may extend the hike a bit longer. Please remember to bring appropriate clothing (warm, non-cotton layers), a flashlight or a headlamp, and water. Traction devices for your shoes may also be useful!

It is an easy, flat hike, on a graded trail. A half-mile portion of it is an ADA designed accessible stabilized stonedust path that, depending on the weather, may be covered in snow or ice. The remaining trails take place on gravel roads and a sand beach. The total mileage out and back is 1.6 miles. We’ll be sticking together, and moving as slowly as the slowest person in the group. This program is about being still and observing, not rushing, and is suitable for both adults and children.
To learn more about the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) State Forest, visit their info page. Find Google Maps directions here.
Children under the age of 12 must be supervised by an adult parent/guardian or chaperone.
Due to the silent nature of this hike, we ask that you please leave dogs (except service animals) at home.
There is no cost for this event. Donations are always gratefully accepted.
