April 6, 2024

Date/Time
Date(s) - Apr 6th, 2024
9:00 am - 10:30 am

Location
Meekins Library

On a blue waterdrop background faintly watermarked by the number 1, turquoise and white text reads "Climate Smart Workshops at Home and Work Session 2 of 5.Soak Up the Rain: It's All About the Soil at Meekins Library, Williamsburg, MA. Saturday April 6th, 9-10:30 am." At the very bottom, there are logos of the four partners; in order from left to right are Hilltown Land Trust, the Town of Williamsburg, Pioneer Valley Planning Commission, and Meekins Library.Learn simple backyard flood interventions you can do yourself in this practical, five-part workshop series introducing strategies for addressing climate impacts at the residential scale. This series is part of the Upper Mill River Watershed Project funded through the Commonwealth’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program.

Planners from Pioneer Valley Planning Commission will introduce the importance of the soil in the second session of the Climate Smart Landscapes at Home and Work series with “Soak Up the Rain: It’s All About the Soil.” Chief Environment Planner Patty Gambarini and Senior Planner W. Kyle Finnell will discuss the various soils of Williamsburg and simple techniques residents can take to help store rainwater in the ground. A brief demonstration of how residents can determine infiltration rate will be part of the event, so dress appropriately for a short activity on the Meekins Library lawn.

This event is free to the public and we welcome all people.
