The Wondrous World of Mushrooms

May 19, 2018

Date/Time
Date(s) - May 19th, 2018
12:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Location
Meekins Library

A large cluster of over 100 small, yellowish mushrooms growing on a mossy green forest floorWe are thrilled to be partnering with Williamsburg Libraries to offer The Wondrous World of Mushrooms: an introductory talk on mushroom identification and the life of fungi, with a guided walk on Hilltown Land Trust conservation land.

Mt. Holyoke College Professor and mushroom enthusiast Shawn Massoni will give a talk on mushroom identification and the fascinating world of mushroom biology at the Meekins Library. The group will then head to HLT’s Bradley Property, to search for mushrooms in the woods! Shawn will aid in identification of fungi out in the field.

Professor Massoni is a visiting professor at Mt. Holyoke College, where he teaches various courses in the biological sciences, including introductory biology, microbiology, bacterial genetics, parasitology, and mycology. He has been intrigued by mushrooms his whole life, and began hunting for mushrooms for fun in high school, and later for food and medicine. He loves to help others gain the knowledge that will increase their confidence in their own abilities to correctly identify mushrooms and to appreciate their beauty and diversity.

Dress for being outdoors (long pants & sleeves, hiking boots, insect repellent, etc.). Be sure to bring water, snacks, and a mushroom field guide if you have one.

There is no cost for this event. Donations are always gratefully accepted.

RSVPs appreciated: hltoutreach [at] thetrustees [dot] org or call 413-628-4485 ext 4.
