The mere mention of these species can be enough to send any conservation professional into an agitated state. Invasive flora present numerous challenges to property owners and land mangers, from conservation organizations like Hilltown Land Trust to private homeowners. Crowding out native species – and often frustratingly difficult to remove – plants like Japanese barberry, bittersweet, and garlic mustard can cause as many headaches in your own backyard as they do on our protected properties.

On Saturday, June 5th, join HLT and naturalist Cesi Marseglia for an invasive plant walk through downtown Williamsburg. We’ll spot examples of troublesome species to be on the lookout for on your own land, and learn about how to best manage these unwanted guests. Our walk will be through an urban environment, on sidewalks and mostly even terrain.

Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather, and bring any water, bug spray, and snacks you require. Pre-registration and adherence to HLT’s COVID-19 policies are required for all participants (see below). Registration is limited to 10 people, and all attendees (including members of the same family) must pre-register individually. For more information, please contact barry@hilltownlandtrust.org.

A suggested donation of $10 (non-members)/$5 (HLT members) is appreciated.
