If you are 73 or older, you are required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA. But did you know there is a way to make your RMD work harder and smarter – both for you and for Hilltown Land Trust?
By making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), you can:
- Satisfy your RMD while avoiding income tax on the distribution.
- Make a tax-smart gift directly to HLT.
- Provide the community access to nature, a lasting legacy in our community.
It’s simple: Ask your IRA administrator to transfer any amount (up to $105,000) directly to HLT. You’ll reduce your taxable income, even if you don’t itemize deductions.
“It’s a relatively painless way to make a few big donations in addition to all my routine small annual donations and memberships renewals,” says one HLT member who gives through her IRA.
With the December 31 deadline approaching, now is the perfect time to take advantage of this opportunity.
“I don’t have a huge IRA, and my RMD is not large,” says the member. “I like to give in a larger lump to smaller, local organizations like Hilltown Land Trust. It feels good just knowing that I’m making a difference.”
Qualified Charitable Distributions are a simple way to make a tax-smart gift to the land from your IRA.
