Autumn Olive berries

Have you ever wondered which wild plants are not only nutritious and tasty, but also free and readily available in nature? Have you ever gotten a scrape while on a hike and wondered if there was a nearby plant that could help heal it? Join us on October 17 in Westhampton with Arianna Alexsandra Collins, Ashfield-based outdoor educator, for a walking tour of autumn’s edible bounty. We will focus on food and medicinal uses of invasive plants. Trailside nibbles are encouraged! Instructions on how to incorporate seasonal wild edibles into your meals will be covered, as well as simple food preservation techniques.

During this program, we will be walking about a half a mile. We’ll be sticking together, and moving at the speed of the slowest person in the group. We’ll be walking on a wide old logging road that crosses mostly flat terrain, with one area of brief and gradual incline towards the farthest end of the trail. The trail itself is fairly level, with generally good footing although some portions may have gravelly or muddy spots. The trail is not wheelchair accessible. Please reach out to sarah@hilltownlandtrust.org if you have further questions about accessibility.

This event is located on HLT conserved land in Westhampton. Address will be provided upon registration.
