Spring Ephemeral Wildflower Walk

May 5, 2021

Date/Time
Date(s) - May 5th, 2021
12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Location
Fare-Thee-Well Wholeness Center

Painted trilliumOn Wednesday, May 5th, Hilltown Land Trust will host a Spring Ephemeral Wildflower Walk from noon – 1:30pm at Fare-Thee-Well Wholeness Center in Huntington. Led by naturalist and gardener Cesi Marseglia, we’ll stroll through the protected forest at Fare-Thee-Well in search of these elusive and fleeting native wildflowers.

True to their name, spring ephemerals are only in bloom for a short time each spring, when warmer weather and abundant sunlight from a still-open forest canopy allow for favorable growing conditions. By late May, the aerial parts (stems, leaves, and flowers) of the wildflowers will die off, while their underground structures lie in wait until the next spring. On our walk, we’ll have the chance to see native flora like Trillium, Early Saxifrage, Trout Lillies, and Dutchman’s Breeches.

Pre-registration and adherence to HLT’s COVID-19 procedures – including wearing masks and observing proper social distancing – are required for all attendees (see form below). Attendance will be capped, and all participants (including members of the same household) must pre-register individually.

Please bring your own water and snacks, if required. We also recommend bringing a camera (or your smartphone!) or a sketchpad to capture your own images of these spring beauties. Contact barry@hilltownlandtrust.org for more information. A donation of $10 (non-members)/$5 (HLT members) is appreciated.
