Spring Hike & Pancakes in Westhampton

March 24, 2019

Date/Time
Date(s) - Mar 24th, 2019
10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Location

Celebrate spring’s arrival with two New England treasures: mountain laurel and maple syrup! Hilltown Land Trust and Kestrel Land Trust are teaming up to welcome spring with a morning hike at Kestrel’s Greenberg Family Conservation Area, followed by brunch up the road at Steve’s Sugar Shack. Combining Greenberg’s beautiful trails through laurel and along the babbling brook with a meal drenched in maple syrup is guaranteed to be the start of an upward swing for your week!

There are several trails on this property, and the length of this hike can range from one to two hours depending on the group’s preferences. Trails are primarily moderate, but a route to Sodom Brook includes a steeper grade down to the water’s edge. Keep in mind the trail may be wet, snowy, or slippery in places. Be sure to wear layers and appropriate footwear, and to bring water.

After the hike, participants are welcome to drive 1 mile to Steve’s Sugar Shack at 34 N Rd, Westhampton, for a pancake brunch. Please note that Steve’s Sugar Shack accepts cash only and that there may be a wait before being seated.

This program is free, but participants will need to purchase their own food. Friendly dogs are welcome on the hike with the use of a leash and respect for others on the trail.

Space is limited to 20 participants and registration is required. Contact Susan Schroder, Community Engagement Coordinator at Hilltown Land Trust by email at HLToutreach@thetrustees.org or call (413) 628-4485, ext. 4.

Rain Date: Sunday, March 31st.

Please note that the end time for this event is approximate and will depend on the hiking route decided by the group and how big the crowds are at Steve’s Sugar Shack.

Parking and meeting location for the hike will be BEHIND the Country Automotive shop at 91A Southampton Rd, Westhampton.
