Have you ever wondered what we would do without our semiaquatic rodent friend the beaver? From improvingbeaver in pond water quality, trapping and storing carbon, to counteracting some of the worst pollution from agriculture and fossil-fuel emissions– the beaver does it all. Join Hilltown Land Trust and beaver naturalist Drew Johnson on a visit to the Briar Hill Conservation Area to learn more about the considerable positive effects beavers have on our ecosystem.

We will meet on Briar Hill Rd, where the beaver pond is conveniently located. It will be a short walk up from the parking area, making it accessible for anyone who would prefer to drive only. We will start with an informational talk about beavers near the parking area.

Those who are looking to explore the surrounding area can continue afterwards with Drew and HLT for an optional hike on a trail built on an old wood road through young hardwood forest. The trail then crosses Cold Brook and climbs through hemlock, oak and hickory stands to a vista overlooking the northern parts of town, with views of the Conway State Forest. The trail is less than 1.5 miles round trip.

To reserve your spot, please contact Allie Foster at allie@hilltownlandtrust.org or call 413-628-4485 x 4.

Directions: The Briar Hill Conservation Area is located on Briar Hill Rd in Williamsburg, near the Goshen town line. Visit Google Maps for directions.

Rain Date: December 8th at 2:00 pm.
